www.toastmasters74.org Toastmaster from Cape Town youngest member ever to head up the Southern Africa operation. Cape Town, South Africa. At a gala induction function in Johannesburg, Craig Strachan, a member of Peninsula Toastmasters Club in the City Bowl in Cape Town, was installed as District Governor, a position which sees him heading up Toastmasters in nine countries. This is a dual first for Toastmasters Southern Africa. Firstly, at age 37 Craig is the youngest District Governor ever in Southern Africa, and secondly he is the first District Governor to succeed his own wife. Lois Strachan, a Toastmaster for over 9 years, handed over the gavel of office at the dinner. Craig will retain the office for the Toastmasters year, which runs from July 2009 to June 2010. “I joined Toastmasters to become a better speaker, but I never realized what a leadership journey I was embarking on”, he said, and went on to say “Almost everybody who is or has been a member [of Toastmasters] experiences profound personal growth.” ABOUT TOASTMASTERS: Toastmasters International, which started in 1924 is a voluntary organization teaching communication and leadership skills to over 200,000 people in over 90 countries worldwide. Toastmasters is represented in nine countries in Southern Africa, reaching a network of over 2000 members, and over 100 clubs.
